The Canada-United Kingdom Colloquium is an annual event organized by the School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto. Bringing together experts from both countries, each year's conference is an opportunity to build relationships and to share knowledge around a pressing and relevant subject: past themes include challenges to democracy and environmental sustainability.

The upcoming 2018 colloquium addresses the opportunities and risks society faces from the growing presence and potential of artificial intelligence. One poster design proposal takes visual cues from academic publications on neural networks, graph models, and data visualization. The graphics mimic simplicial complexes used in topological data analysis, and the Python-generated blue-red-white colour palette represents the official colours of Canada and UK.

The final poster design prioritised straightforward graphics, as well as a more unified colour palette. A city skyline and an artificial brain are instantly recognizable symbols of "AI and Society".  The typeface choice of IBM Plex Sans reflects the colloquium's focus on our shared human/computer future.
